Dr. BRJ Satish Kumar

Dr. BRJ Satish Kumar runs the BRJ Ortho Centre and MAK Hospital in Coimbatore. A well-qualified and experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Satish Kumar obtained the postgraduate MS (Ortho) degree from the prestigious PGIMER in Chandigarh, India's premier postgraduate medical education and research institute. He also has a DNB in Orthopaedic Surgery, having topped this examination of the National Board in 2001. Earlier he had graduated from Madurai Medical College with an MBBS degree in January 1993, bagging gold medals in several subjects. In addition, he completed a special fellowship program in Paediatric Orthopaedics under Prof. Hae Ryong Song at Gyeong Song National University Hospital, South Korea, for five months in 2003.

After returning from South Korea, Dr. BRJ Satish Kumar served as a Consultant at Senthil Hospital in Coimbatore from August 2003 to June 2008. He was associated as Senior Consultant at the Kalpana Medical Centre twice, first from July to November 2008, and then in April/May 2014. Since June 2014, he has been with the BRJ Ortho Centre and MAK Hospital.

With over 15 years of professional experience, Dr. Satish Kumar is well-versed in all aspects of orthopaedic and trauma surgery. He has had special training in closed reduction and internal fixation of fractures using C arm, polytrauma and multiple skeletal trauma as well as pelvi-acetabular fracture fixation: anterior column acetabular fixation by ilioinguinal approach and iliofemoral approach, posterior column fixation by the Kocher Langenbeck approach. He is familiar with all types of complex surgery procedures using ILIZAROV type and other external fixators, bone and limb lengthening, non-unions, deformity corrections, etc. Besides, he is adept at paediatric orthopaedic processes such as congenital deformity correction, congenital dislocation of hip, cerebral palsy, etc. In addition, he is adept at all types of knee surgery with techniques involving the use of FS (Sulzer), PLUS (Endoplus), LPS (Zimmer), PFC (DePuy), OPTETRAK (Exatech) GENESIS (Smith & Nephew) and VANGUARD (Biomet). He also has good experience in correcting severe arthritic Valgus deformities through lateral arthrotomy and lateral release.

Dr. BRJ Satish Kumar has considerable teaching experience too, commencing during his Junior Registrar posting at PGIMER Chandigarh from January 1995 to December 1997, and continuing during his stints as Assistant Professor at the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Coimbatore from January 1998 to February 2003, and later as Associate Professor from December 2008 to March 2010. He also had teaching responsibilities while in South Korea.

Dr. Satish Kumar has delivered lectures on a wide range of general orthopaedic topics such as knee pain, joints pain, osteoporosis, low back pain, basics of aerobics, etc., and orthopaedic surgery speciality topics such as recent trends in orthopaedic surgery, challenging cases in orthopaedic surgery, deformity correction, latest trends in spine surgery, polytrauma management, joint replacements, etc. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Kumar has been actively involved in clinical research activities and was involved in writing several research papers and case reports. His leisure time activities include origami, rangoli design and singing. He is conversant in Tamil, English and Hindi.
